When I retired from my own car repair workshop, because of disability in 2002, I
found that I had a lot of time on my hands which I spent learning about computers
and the internet. Then I returned to what I started out doing, yes you’ve guessed
it -
I started to collect and repair guitars again, as a sort of therapy,
and I found it kept my mind active as well as my limbs, even though I could no longer
play, and it was from 2002 that I started building a few replica Stratocasters from
secondhand parts. This progressed to my building one from new parts keeping the original
logos on the guitars. In 2005 I built a Cream Stratocaster using all new parts with
a 'Mighty Mite' H-
I still wanted to
build my own (with my name on them) and began to think of a name. When I was at school,
I had the nickname 'Ed' (Edwards, Simon) so when a fellow guitar collector, Guy Mackenzie,
suggested 'Ed Simons', it rang a bell and Ed Simons Guitars was born.
My first model
was a 'Simons ES121' which was a replica of a Tele which carried the serial number:
0001. Guy bagged this one, so I started on a red Strat replica, an ES131, no:0002.
The next three guitars are planned for late 2006 into 2007. They will be an ES121,
an ES131H and an ES131, the ES131H having a H-
